On Thursday afternoon, the Maryland State Police Aviation Command Unit was called into Preston County to rescue a missing person who was experiencing a medical emergency along the Cheat River.
Police say that the person was located along the West Virginia river after being reported missing three days earlier.
Due to the expected extended time it would take to extricate the victim and due to his condition, the state police helicopter was requested to hoist the hiker to safety.
The flight crew was able to lower a trooper to the riverbank, and the victim was hoisted into the helicopter and rushed to the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for treatment and evaluation of undisclosed injuries.
Their condition was not available on Friday afternoon. The nature of the medical emergency was not released by the police.
